The Emmaus Bible College Family Mourns the Loss of Martha Smith

Today the Emmaus Bible College family is mourning the loss of Martha Smith, wife of Dr. Daniel Smith, former president and chancellor of the College. Martha entered the presence of her Savior on Friday, September 4, 2020, surrounded by members of her beloved family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Dan and Martha came to serve at Emmaus Bible School in Oak Park, Illinois in 1958, soon after their marriage. For more than 60 years, this amazing couple served the Lord and Emmaus students and staff with servants’ hearts. Martha served as Dan’s executive secretary for many years, and the couple hosted countless Emmaus students at their table for Miss Martha’s authentic Mexican food and lots of laughter. Martha cared for many international students and families while they studied at the College. She could always be counted on for great counsel and loving encouragement.

Martha took a special interest in the children of Emmaus faculty and staff members, teaching quilting and other crafts and spending quality time with them talking about the Lord Jesus. Martha spent her summers serving at Lake Geneva Youth Camp (where she had first met Dan). Her contagious joy and fun-loving personality made her a favorite with campers and staff members alike.

Please join us in praying for the Smith family as they mourn the loss of both Dan and Martha within just a few months. We praise God for the investment of their lives and ministries at Emmaus and the impact that these dear servants had on thousands of Emmaus students.
