Emmaus Eagles Father and Son Duo Featured in Local News

Father and son duo Paul and Caleb Ruter, teammates on the Emmaus Eagles basketball team, were recently featured on Dubuque local TV station KCRG. And while KCRG misspelled their last name “Rooter,” the Ruter story is a good one.

Paul, age 54, played for the Eagles 32 years ago, nabbing the MVP title his freshman year. He was unable to finish his one-year degree, as he was called home to farm full-time. It’s always been Paul’s dream to return to complete his degree; it’s even more of a dream come true to attend Emmaus this year with his son, Caleb.

A stand out freshman this year at Emmaus, Caleb, age 19, is leading the team in scoring. He enjoys playing with his father; in fact, he says the father-son dynamic disappears on the court. At that point, they’re just teammates.

The Emmaus Eagles just finished regular season play; they travel to Joplin, MO next week to play in the ACCA National Tournament.
