The Emmaus basketball season concluded yesterday at the ACCA National Tournament in Joplin, Missouri.
The Emmaus men came in as the #10 seed and drew a tough first round matchup on Wednesday in the athletic #7 seed, Shepherd Technical College (Memphis, TN). They fought hard but weren't able to keep pace and fell by a score of 95-55. Leading scorers were sophomore Nate Smith (11 points), junior Aaron Fullan (10 points), and freshman Alex Campbell (9 points on perfect 3-3 shooting). The loss put the Eagles in the consolation bracket, where they met Champion Baptist College (Hot Springs, AR), the 2011 ACCA Men's Division 2 champs. Emmaus played well from start to finish and won comfortably, 71-53. Leading the way were Nate Smith (20 points, 13 rebounds), senior Luke Wilkerson (13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists), and Aaron Fullan (10 points, 10 rebounds). That brought the Eagles to Friday, where they took on a familiar foe, Calvary Bible College (Kansas City, MO). Calvary came out strong to take an early lead, but the Emmaus men fought back hard and led at the half, 30-21. Thanks to the Emmaus bench outscoring Calvary's bench 14-0, the Eagles held on in the end for a 60-55 victory, securing the consolation championship. Freshman Isaiah Langlois knocked down two key three-pointers down the stretch and Luke Wilkerson led the team admirably in his last college game (12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists). Aaron Fullan had a great all-around game with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
All in all, the trip to Nationals was a great success, as both men's and women's teams had a great time playing and watching basketball, relaxing in the hotel, traveling and eating together, and getting to fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ from the other Christian colleges from around the country.
