Highlights from the 60th Anniversary Reunion
Emmaus held its 60th anniversary reunion on October 18-21, 2001. About 250 people attended along with current Emmaus students, faculty and staff. In addition to the United States and Canada, alumni came from as far away as Italy, France, and Brazil.
The event began with a welcome and a time of fellowship on Thursday evening. This provided an opportunity for friends, long separated, to visit and reminisce about old times shared at the college.
Friday morning, alumni were allowed to attend classes with current Emmaus students in the "Back to School" part of the weekend. Friday afternoon provided an opportunity for various activities such as campus tours, golf, shopping, or just visiting with friends. At 4 p.m. on Friday an alumni choir was formed and rehearsed for their performance later that evening. At 7 p.m., president Ken Daughters gave the message, "A View to the Future", in the auditorium. At 9 p.m., the "Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs" was held in the marble chapel, including a performance by the alumni choir.
Saturday morning, a session on the recent news from Emmaus was held, followed by a message from Jon Glock entitled, "A Challenge for the Future." A new constitution for the Alumni Association, including the formation of regional chapters, was proposed. At 2:30 p.m. alumni gathered into their respective decade groups for more reminiscing. Presentations were given by the Emmaus Correspondence school as well as the Believers Stewardship Services. Saturday evening was the 60th Anniversary Reunion Banquet at the Silver Eagle Center in East Dubuque, Illinois, with chancellor Daniel H. Smith speaking.
Sunday morning, alumni attended the church service of their choice and had dinner in the dining hall. We've received many favorable responses from those who attended, and look forward to celebrating our 65th anniversary in the fall of 2006.
