The Continuing Education Certificate in
K-8 or K-12 Music Education
This program of study is designed to provide the coursework needed for the State of Iowa endorsements as a K-12 music teacher to the college graduate or career-interruption student who holds a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Upon successful completion of this certificate program, the teacher candidate is awarded a Continuing Education Certificate in Music Education and is eligible for the K-8 and/or K-12 Music endorsement(s) from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
Continuing Education Certificate in
Music Education Admission and Completion Requirements:
1. Meet admission requirements of Emmaus Bible College.
2. Complete Music Information Profile and audition with the music faculty (by May 1 prior to fall registration).
3. Complete application for admission to the Teacher Education Program.
4. Attach a letter of reference from a school administrator who can comment on your most recent classroom teaching experience. If you have not had a professional teaching experience, request the letter of reference from a college professor in your major or from your most recent employer who can comment on your potential as a professional educator. 5. Attach a second letter of reference from someone who can comment on your experiences with children or adolescents in a school or ministry setting.
6. Attach a two-page "Why I Want To Teach" essay. Essays lacking standard language conventions or adequate rationale statements may be returned for resubmission.
7. Applicants without a teaching license must submit passing scores from a standardized basic skills exam in reading and math (e.g. 270 for Praxis 1 or 235 for C-Base).
8. Applicants with a valid teaching license must attach a copy of the state credential or grant our program electronic access to view it on the state website.
9. The Teacher Education and/or the Music department(s) may request an admission interview with the applicant.
10. A degree audit must indicate a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5.
11. Verify and/or complete a minimum of 86 total credit hours.
12. Verify and/or achieve a grade of not less than 2.0 in six credit hours of English and in three credit hours of Math.

Teacher Candidates seeking an initial teaching license in K-12 Music Education must successfully complete the requirements for the core professional coursework and the K-8 and/or K-12 Music endorsement(s):
(1) Complete the TEP "Core Professional Coursework" with embedded requirements that are designed for candidates to demonstrate their professional knowledge, skills, and dispositional competencies as detailed in the TEP's "Core Professional Outcomes."
